BMW is planning to get back on the track with arch-rivals Mercedes-Benz and Audi for the 2012 motorsport season, after an 18-year hiatus. Wagner BMW of Shrewsbury has been eager to see what the Bavarian automaker will bring to the table since they first announced their highly-anticipated return last year. Next month is when we can expect to get a little glimpse to what BMW has in store.
BMW is planning to unveil their new M3 DTM concept for the first time at Munich's Olympic Stadium on July 16-17. While it is still in its concept form and will likely evolve some between its current state and production, it will give racing enthusiasts some insight into what next year's car will look like.
With contagious enthusiasm, Jens Marquardt, Motorsport Director, BMW says, "The fact that DTM [Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters] is staging an event in Munich this year is obviously exciting and interesting for us too. The location right on our doorstep gives the term 'home event' a whole new meaning in motorsport in the future. Although we will not be competing in 2011, we want to use this opportunity to give DTM and BMW Motorsport followers a taste of what they can look forward to next season..."1
BMW has been working steadfast on the development of the all-new M3 DTM since announcing their plans to re-enter the motorsport world last October. Thus far, the project has run, according to plan and the concept is expected to undergo its first series of testing in the near future.
When BMW does return to the motorsport arena in 2012, they will be represented by three capable teams: BMW Team Schnitzer, BMW Team RBM, and BMW Team RMG.
